Spaghetti Feed Fundraiser – June 11th
On June 11th from 5:30-7:30 PM, there will be a Spaghetti Feed Fundraiser at the Colfax High School Cafeteria to support Beverly and Kelly Barnett.
Max Barnett, their son, shared the following about his parents:
“Bev and Kelly Barnett are two wonderful people in our community. They moved to Colfax three years ago from Auburn after caring for Bev’s parents until mom and dad passed away. Bev and Kelly spent nearly 7 years with her parents, moving away from their original home in Spokane. Colfax naturally and quickly felt like home. They have made friends with everybody wherever they go. Helping others has been their hobby. Kelly sure enjoys driving his school bus every school day and has become popular entertainment for the kids that ride his bus. Both are talented artists in sketching and painting. Bev has artwork in galleries, homes, and books. Kelly worked for 13 years as an artist for Hallmark Cards in Kansas City. Kelly has created a following of young artists from his art class at Colfax High School and their art is seen at the Colfax City Pool and in galleries downtown. Their beautiful smiles and caring hearts are some of their known features. The well-being of family and friends is their passion. Nine grandchildren are their greatest fans. In late January, two days before Bev’s birthday, unnerving news arrived and she found out about an upcoming speed bump. Cancer. In less than 2 weeks Bev would undergo a serious surgery that removed most of the cancer. Infection hit a day later and an emergency surgery was performed. Doctors and nurses have been miracle-workers in these past few months. Chemotherapy started in March. Major fatigue follows each cancer treatment. Early May brought unexpected infection around her chemo port, which had to be removed, and contained her in the hospital for two weeks. Countless blood tests and expensive, specialized tests have been performed. Chemo treatments are close to halfway done. We are hopeful and doctors are hopeful. Bev and Kelly are planning for retirement and soon thereafter to give their time to missionary service. Last year they bought a truck and camper trailer and now reside in an RV park on the north side of Colfax. The truck and camper life has been preparing for their upcoming missionary travels. Colfax will always be home and where they will return. Their plan is to enjoy life at every turn together.”
We are working with other community groups to help make this event a success. A support letter will be going out shortly, but in the meantime, if you can contribute by donating ingredients, volunteering, or simply showing up to share a meal and show your support, it would be deeply appreciated. Let us know if there’s any way you’d like to help!
